Introduction
The website’s tabs are arranged such that they follow the progression of our work this semester from conception to final results. The research log tab provided a blog like forum in which we placed our progress reports, thereby recording the steps taken through the design process.
Project Summary
Our project aimed to create surface capable of condensing water from the atmosphere to be collected for drinking purposes, as inspired from the back of the Namib Desert beetle. Towards that end, patterned superhydrophilic and superhydrophobic materials were coated over an aluminum sheet, thereby replicating the surface of the Stenocara’s back. The prototype surface was subsequently tested in a environmental chamber, and successfully collected water from ambient humidity.
